Clockdex Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 6, 2026
Clockdex ("the app", "we", "us") is a desktop time-tracking application. This policy explains what data Clockdex collects, how it's used, and how you can access or delete it.
What Clockdex collects
While running, Clockdex automatically records:
- The name and file path of the application currently in focus
- The window title of that application
- For browser tabs — only if you've installed and paired the Clockdex browser extension — the domain of the site you're viewing
- Timestamps marking when each of the above started and stopped being active
This builds your local activity history: the app names, categories, and domains shown in the Review and Manage tabs so you can see where your time went.
Clockdex does not collect your name, email address, IP address, location, or any account/identity information — there is no account system. It does not read file contents, keystrokes, clipboard, or webpage content — only the window title text and the domain (not the full URL, not query strings, not page content) for browser tabs.
Where your data goes
Nowhere but your own computer. Clockdex stores all activity data in a local database on your machine, in a folder you can view and relocate from Settings → Data Storage. Nothing is uploaded to any server we operate — there is no Clockdex server. The only network communication Clockdex performs is strictly local to your own machine (localhost), between the desktop app and its companion browser extension, so the app can learn the domain of your active browser tab. That connection never leaves your computer.
Browser extension
If you install the Clockdex companion extension (Chrome or Firefox), it reads the domain of your active tab and sends it to the Clockdex desktop app running on the same computer, over a local, paired connection — the extension only activates after you explicitly pair it with the desktop app using a one-time code generated in Settings. It does not send data anywhere else and does not read page content.
Your control over your data
- View everything Clockdex has recorded in the Review tab at any time.
- Locate or move the underlying data file from Settings → Data Storage.
- Export everything as a JSON file, or delete it all in one click, from Settings → Data Storage.
- Stop tracking at any time by removing an app from the tracked list in Manage, or by closing Clockdex.
Children's privacy
Clockdex is not directed at children and is not knowingly used to collect data from children.
